For almost 30 years, Great Northern Baking Company has been a small, made from scratch bakery in NE Minneapolis. We take great pride in providing the best value in wholesale and retail packaged baked goods, while delivering great quality products. We are proud of our partnership with so many schools in Minnesota and throughout the Midwest, as well as airlines, restaurants and convenience stores.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Our Production Manager will be responsible for directing, coordinating and facilitating the day-to-day production operations of our bakery.  We are looking for an individual who is committed to producing quality product while exhibiting and practicing Great Northern’s core values every day; follow GMP policy and proper safety PPE’s.  Mentor and engage team members by cultivating and promoting a positive work environment. The Production Manager will report to the Director of Operations and work with our other cross functional teams.

Specific Production tasks:

  • Facilitate production activities to meet quality/safety specifications and regulatory
  • Create and implement production, packaging and sanitation schedules daily for all processing lines and employees. Work with others to forecast out weekly/monthly production needs.
  • Use ERP system to create batches, close out finished goods and control inventory and purchasing.
  • Implement new Warehouse Management System and be responsible for purchasing and inventory management.
  • Implement continuous improvement in Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Weight Control.
  • Responsible for controlling labor and overtime and meeting labor % goals.
  • Responsible for controlling ingredient and packaging costs and meeting COG% goals
  • Hire, train, promote and discipline production staff as needed. Educate and train the workforce on daily tasks including, production equipment, PPE’s, GMP’s, etc.
  • Be an active member on the Food Safety and GFSI audit teams.
  • Support new product efforts from initial test runs to full-scale production to assure integrity of systems.
  • Work with other departments to resolve any customer concerns, including providing Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Plan to the customer.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in Food/Biological Science, Production Management, Business or related field preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in Food manufacturing or quality control.
  • Highly organized with strong record keeping/documenting skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office and ability to quickly learn new ERP systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical commercial baking and packaging equipment a plus. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
